By car, Lake Placid is five hours from New York City. Go north on the New York Thruway and continue to Route 87 North until Exit 30. It is then 28 miles to Lake Placid along Route 9 and then Route 73. The Adirondack Regional Airport, served by Continental Express, is 16 miles from Lake Placid.
