Why Lake Placid...

The Adirondack Park -- bigger than the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and  Yellowstone combined -- is a haven for the harried, providing rest, relaxation and renewal.

The word vacation - according to local legend - evolved from the word vacate. In the 1800's there truly was a summer ritual of "vacating" city homes and packing up everything for the annual trek to Adirondack great camps. Some things have changed today - after all, what's the point of getting away from it all, if you have to bring it all with you?

At Whiteface Mountain, you'll find some of the best alpine skiing and snowboarding in North America. It has the greatest vertical drop this side of the Rockies and is the only ski area in the East to have hosted the Olympic Winter Games.
